My son fed him and acclimated him to people, and then I took him home. </div><div><br /></div><div>It isn't easy adopting a feral cat. He was a bit rough sometime and tried to eat your dinner for you, but now he's enjoying the life of a house cat. We thought he was a kitten, but he's full grown and and no longer undernourished.</div><div><br /></div><div>Now let's get back to those vertical collages which are great for beginners. A vertical collage has pieces running vertically or top to bottom instead of side to side. I believe that vertical collages look better if they have an odd numer of pieces. The one above has 5 background pieces plus two focal point pieces which gives you seven pieces in all. So consider every element you lay down for your collage. If something looks off count the pieces. Chances are you have an even number of things and need to add one more.</div><div><br /></div><div>I like to choose a few colors and perhaps and marker or two and paint my own paper for tearing or cutting into collage papers. A gelli print is also excellent for these types of collages. You can read about how I do that here. <a href="https://www.pinkbunkadoo.com/2017/02/mixed-media-motherboards-make-future.html" target="_blank">Mother boards</a></div><div><br /></div><div>As for focal points some of my favorites are stamps colored with dampened Dina Wakley Media Scribble Stick likr the moth below.. Black inked stamp impressions would be great. Words cut from a magazine or handwritten finish a collage nicely. I like digging through odds and ends to see what I can find. I used an old key once.</div><div><br /></div><div>You can watch the basic process here.</div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Pow_Nuo2CY&t=32s" target="_blank">Vertical Collages</a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div></div><blockquote style="border: none; margin: 0px 0px 0px 40px; padding: 0px;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div></blockquote><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Here are a few more examples that are a bit more complicated:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><br /></div><blockquote style="border: none; margin: 0px 0px 0px 40px; padding: 0px;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div></blockquote><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhC47DYYomrsyb63_sJudM-EIpISToVjznCm9XMl30iYeb1lWl0wAIDer5_WdG74lrWmX9HY0VlADjmjfiR96GcPc8nLxtlTQkJWVqqJRcLdUkm4-ap5sk9O4YgPwB025If5FVFDlGo_KvxPf5xteiZ7-QLT6Uo2MONaq8pnNNRLygOOYYMDNUPZEKtAHw/s2801/IMG_0780.HEIC" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2801" data-original-width="2573" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhC47DYYomrsyb63_sJudM-EIpISToVjznCm9XMl30iYeb1lWl0wAIDer5_WdG74lrWmX9HY0VlADjmjfiR96GcPc8nLxtlTQkJWVqqJRcLdUkm4-ap5sk9O4YgPwB025If5FVFDlGo_KvxPf5xteiZ7-QLT6Uo2MONaq8pnNNRLygOOYYMDNUPZEKtAHw/w589-h640/IMG_0780.HEIC" width="589" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKV33RG5XDky3fGQl8hxICbtu54vFSrBeXRMsegg-s4q3rhvfOXV-OmsSEyyGQAlg6p25jhpOoPCy3aKLVnmNynVQP4acJGpPuexGiPOSMgEY6oTK6NgOGqgvYfC_2nnv70MknCS1EsqlQtYX9ZmxX68eMCCOz1r09ltBkiiF7EoOrw87fsbONYaoALoM/s2598/86DD2EFC-5253-4D21-93C3-F868ED16519B.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2552" data-original-width="2598" height="629" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKV33RG5XDky3fGQl8hxICbtu54vFSrBeXRMsegg-s4q3rhvfOXV-OmsSEyyGQAlg6p25jhpOoPCy3aKLVnmNynVQP4acJGpPuexGiPOSMgEY6oTK6NgOGqgvYfC_2nnv70MknCS1EsqlQtYX9ZmxX68eMCCOz1r09ltBkiiF7EoOrw87fsbONYaoALoM/w640-h629/86DD2EFC-5253-4D21-93C3-F868ED16519B.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I save my coolest scraps in a box so vertical collages come together easily. Do you always have extra paint on your brush or pallette? My pallette is a tacky plastic Halloween plate from bygone times, and there is always paint on it. Beatiful, beautiful paint that I hate to waste. I'm going to share three simple ways to use up your paint quickly for your next project or page.</p><p>Number one: Simply swipe paint on a blank art journal page. Now you aren't starting with an empty page,you have color and expressive strokes to work from.</p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgL8Qe_wnv4DKgR-b6x-EIBrNsqtXDYmgbic4i_l-w6njbGo_hm7-Pw-W3g8snOfHU3Rjfc0ldP4TUYTTTkuVC7QP_lCtkRKZIFw4_FcQpI-gKqfhBBJmi0Wh32AuU4laNKak9niM7Nsr-UcWoSNmyoQeUapnVZ98SshjyFGAAgrgeBopXv1GihAgweLdw/s1826/IMG_1053.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1795" data-original-width="1826" height="630" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgL8Qe_wnv4DKgR-b6x-EIBrNsqtXDYmgbic4i_l-w6njbGo_hm7-Pw-W3g8snOfHU3Rjfc0ldP4TUYTTTkuVC7QP_lCtkRKZIFw4_FcQpI-gKqfhBBJmi0Wh32AuU4laNKak9niM7Nsr-UcWoSNmyoQeUapnVZ98SshjyFGAAgrgeBopXv1GihAgweLdw/w640-h630/IMG_1053.HEIC" width="640" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Do you see the orange paint in the background? That was left over from another day.</td></tr></tbody></table><br />Number two: make circles, squares, or other simple shape on book paper or other interesting paper you might have. One of my favorite papers for this technique is wet strentgh tissue paper because on a pale background the tissue becomes sheer if covered front and back with gel medium.<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdpuy3XdHgXpZqPzDr0buOnXKhbJ3NXlF3o0V482NsvBdI0q7mHKRAyn2W9TlHanjvoiWfzzR8OPgWJEc9AgaZUiyMZLLjCqDVxJGxofRFChl5n69KFHh4S1Xk2v03kHkAwqe-_gZ1QqmdtfMqcTTw2Svv00FlDrjKN0-CI3qeUSKph1nzJavD0F-aOWE/s2571/IMG_1055.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2571" data-original-width="2461" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdpuy3XdHgXpZqPzDr0buOnXKhbJ3NXlF3o0V482NsvBdI0q7mHKRAyn2W9TlHanjvoiWfzzR8OPgWJEc9AgaZUiyMZLLjCqDVxJGxofRFChl5n69KFHh4S1Xk2v03kHkAwqe-_gZ1QqmdtfMqcTTw2Svv00FlDrjKN0-CI3qeUSKph1nzJavD0F-aOWE/w612-h640/IMG_1055.HEIC" width="612" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Green and white blended circles with leftover paint on bookpaper.</td></tr></tbody></table><br />Thirdly, if you have a variety of colors on your pallette, its fun to make simple flowers. Simple flowers can be circles or lines. One the page below you'll see flowers made from painting a v and then adding an extra line. They look quite nice all together. I've even used brown, but in a mass of flowers it fades into shadow.<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSUQnDRsmtwFr3cjFl8mx_i9cugZiK70VaC3Z9O0q8fahLhTkXxkOpXT5eYQuWSyjVnrLduZBh8lBX5rrSJUnFAo5nZaPTF3J_CUIdGay4jjJkaMEfFjd2oD1bdIhJgaivUzBg6-bvp3ZwOQsLpeCfsXPre31sSPI48f0vcWK-l25RjIXa7maFXEN9zTw/s3512/IMG_1057.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3512" data-original-width="2436" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSUQnDRsmtwFr3cjFl8mx_i9cugZiK70VaC3Z9O0q8fahLhTkXxkOpXT5eYQuWSyjVnrLduZBh8lBX5rrSJUnFAo5nZaPTF3J_CUIdGay4jjJkaMEfFjd2oD1bdIhJgaivUzBg6-bvp3ZwOQsLpeCfsXPre31sSPI48f0vcWK-l25RjIXa7maFXEN9zTw/w444-h640/IMG_1057.HEIC" width="444" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">V flowers</td></tr></tbody></table><br />Those are my three simiple ways to use up extra paint. Of course there are many more. Let me know if you'd like a few more or share some cool ones you have.<div><br /></div><div>Warmly,</div><div><br /></div><div>Carolyn</div><div><br /></div><div>I don't use sponsor links for products, but if you are curious about any supplies I've used I'll share where they came from.</div><div><br /></div><div>My art quote of the month--"There is no must in art because art is free" Wassily Kandinsky</div><div><br /></div><div>You can find me on Instagram @carolyn_herring_studio or on Etsy by clicking <a href="http://here.">here.</a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><p><br /></p></div>Pink Bunkadoohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17020425078534190885noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5444400873751008167.post-68384488599065884912023-06-30T13:50:00.002-05:002023-06-30T13:50:41.901-05:00Stencil Twist<p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjY19QeUhPF33a9TI7YRRIvdHFaG60SerIb_fHuRMIK7K9eENLrV1VR0rx9bub1H2TofE1hQMXKH-hOCqkbUVN8Q_vRF5Rcv57KNUaLcihMHa05jS8KLqYGX_FEXepVCcg5yO2riVh1-J2uuWSNQ1GDZ4GM1KFMtAlYXx23QorNH_nuzZZgOeCwq01a2VE/s2707/IMG_0239.HEIC" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2707" data-original-width="2431" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjY19QeUhPF33a9TI7YRRIvdHFaG60SerIb_fHuRMIK7K9eENLrV1VR0rx9bub1H2TofE1hQMXKH-hOCqkbUVN8Q_vRF5Rcv57KNUaLcihMHa05jS8KLqYGX_FEXepVCcg5yO2riVh1-J2uuWSNQ1GDZ4GM1KFMtAlYXx23QorNH_nuzZZgOeCwq01a2VE/w574-h640/IMG_0239.HEIC" width="574" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Make a cool flower</td></tr></tbody></table><br /> Hi y'all,</p><p>I have a little video about playing with the new Dina Wakley Media Sunshine Stencil. So I'll type through it. I wanted to make a subtle but colorful background. I started by dipping Scribble Sticks in water (Stabilo Woodies or Gelatos and other water soluable medium would work) and drew some rough rectanges. Then I went around it with a warm gray paint. A neutral gray would be beautiful, too. After it dried, I used white paint through a stencil. Then I used the gray through a different stencil. You can see me sketch a simple face thinking of that snippet of scripture -I am fearfully and wonderfully made. If you'd like a lesson on drawing a face, Tam from Willowing and Dina Wakely both have videos on YouTube that really helped me.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">By next month, I should have a new phone and maybe voice over on the video. I'm sharing it for a couple of reasons. One big reason is part of being an artist is sharing. I've been blessed. Most people have been kind. The artist community on Instagram is supportive. I'm also a supporter of Dina Wakely. Everyone in her group is especially lovely. I'd like to challenge you to share your art. If you tag me @pinkbunkadoo, I'll be able to see what you created. Another big reason is practice. In my art journal, I'm not looking for perfection which is way over rated. I'm trying things out. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: arial;">Below is the quick flip through.</span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/3DOpqoVy18M" width="320" youtube-src-id="3DOpqoVy18M"></iframe></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><span style="font-family: arial;">Here are some pieces that it inspired. I'm back! It's true I've been a way for a while. Some of it was a bad case of imposter syndrome, some of it was caring for my mom through her final months, and some if it was deciding to retire from teaching first grade. January was spent in thinking about returning to this space. I'm going to make some changes that are hopefully better for everyone. I'm letting go of posting links for products. You should feel like you can use what you've already collected. You probably have favorite products just like I do. If you have a question about any product that I've used, just ask in the comment section. I'll only be sharing what I'm currently working on. I love mixed media so I might work in an art journal, make a card, paint a canvas, or make a hand-made book. It will be surprise. I plan to be here about once a month.
Now let's dig in to my new art journal spread.
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnHFcsBth6cWv4Ofrl2rIirqJ1N3xP0wIyX1NCrj41cjSnGcBgBfzDuFrhzELHl8DwxzSGf0uA-NN5HOY_HdnkVXaa9jJeQhanpBiYHdNpL1bNepNPflHylxYH3JadSZhGKgH_Fn1Wl4e7mPvMFd0MSDJVIczVQEliJ05Bq4f30hbWk-Tj2YH7hc62/s3123/IMG_3890.HEIC" style="display: block; padding: 1em 0; text-align: center; "><img alt="" border="0" height="320" data-original-height="3123" data-original-width="3024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnHFcsBth6cWv4Ofrl2rIirqJ1N3xP0wIyX1NCrj41cjSnGcBgBfzDuFrhzELHl8DwxzSGf0uA-NN5HOY_HdnkVXaa9jJeQhanpBiYHdNpL1bNepNPflHylxYH3JadSZhGKgH_Fn1Wl4e7mPvMFd0MSDJVIczVQEliJ05Bq4f30hbWk-Tj2YH7hc62/s320/IMG_3890.HEIC"/></a></div>
Sketching faces isn't easy for me though I practice a lot. There are hundreds of faces sketched on paper in my studio. Many never see the light of day. But sometimes there is a sketch I like, and I have an easy way of getting it in my journal. Watch to see.
<iframe class="BLOG_video_class" allowfullscreen="" youtube-src-id="7Ak9EU2JvIM" width="320" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/7Ak9EU2JvIM"></iframe>
Drawing over a sketch and then very lightly spritzing it with water and pressing it down on the paper that I wish to use is my short cut. I use a Stabilo All pencil, but any water soluable medium should work. After the image is dry on your chosen surface you can draw over it to make your lines stand out and then glue it in your journal. For the very old paper, I used a glue stick. It still tore, but no matter I just glued it down too.

Sometime I journal on my page and some times I add a quote. I keep an eye out for good quotes on Pinterest and pin them to a board. Later I can look through and choose on that fits the feel of the art journal page. I use my everyday handwriting. You should be comfortable using yours. Your art journal is an expression of you--your thoughts and feeling at a particular moment. It's never about perfection which is absolutely over rated. You can see my handwriting below.

Hi y'all,<br />
<br />
Combining recycling and art is a sweet spot for me. You might know that I'm a first grade teacher as well as Etsy shop owner and paper crafter. These boxes held reading materials for my classroom. I couldn't wait to unpack and get my hands on these boxes. Three dimensional projects are fun and look pretty sensational. And it's not harder than making art journal pages.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiplpQo6iOCA5mtivqrFGbtG9mBQkaC9Ah6Xk7mVuZfOcYJfc79nR4EzYHiFgUfCFEcZ8CqtXuyq-mANvnT8E7mv1kZHe1C2vmvo8BRYhY8FMPIh7Anjrzl4pV-eyMjr1W7OQOm7Ph41lk/s1600/IMG_9096+%25281%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="728" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiplpQo6iOCA5mtivqrFGbtG9mBQkaC9Ah6Xk7mVuZfOcYJfc79nR4EzYHiFgUfCFEcZ8CqtXuyq-mANvnT8E7mv1kZHe1C2vmvo8BRYhY8FMPIh7Anjrzl4pV-eyMjr1W7OQOm7Ph41lk/s400/IMG_9096+%25281%2529.jpg" width="182" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
To begin I put <a href="https://amzn.to/2NA5KB3" target="_blank">FolkArt White Chalk paint</a> all over, doing two sides and then flipping the box when the sides were dry. Then I gently sanded the box to show some distress. I used <a href="https://amzn.to/2L1iOgX" target="_blank">black gesso</a> on the corners and journaled with a <a href="https://amzn.to/2L26YDC" target="_blank">white Posca pen</a>. If you connect your words when journaling and don't stop to worry with spelling it looks pretty cool. Just write whatever is randomly on your mind--it's not a novel.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjk1k5dQa3WfVtwZjpqPGPq6G57RR9c2PtiNhztzWXh9x3HkeNfqz7lsHzSKok49UMWWHrZfIBuGqg58Geo1qZ35d9tHtleTeuUaAmaY_PnnkWunPM6iAU-opdbkK9lGeGfTW1ZBtjlc6Q/s1600/IMG_9110.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjk1k5dQa3WfVtwZjpqPGPq6G57RR9c2PtiNhztzWXh9x3HkeNfqz7lsHzSKok49UMWWHrZfIBuGqg58Geo1qZ35d9tHtleTeuUaAmaY_PnnkWunPM6iAU-opdbkK9lGeGfTW1ZBtjlc6Q/s320/IMG_9110.jpg" width="240" /></a>Then I used <a href="https://amzn.to/2MGMOB2" target="_blank">Tim Holtz's Mini Harlequin stencil</a> and dabbed <a href="https://amzn.to/2NJjkBY" target="_blank">Dina Wakely Turquoise paint </a>through it randomly on each side of the box. I added black using <a href="https://amzn.to/2NElljc" target="_blank">Momento Tuxedo Black ink </a>stamping with Tim Holtz's French Script Stamp (I'm unable to find a link)Stamper's Anonymous Forever Art Stamp ( no link ), and <a href="https://amzn.to/2zpOOou" target="_blank">Stampendous Butterfly Stamp and Die Set.</a> Don't worry if you can't find the exact stamps I used. Go through your stash and find what cool thing you have.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhoaPr6f9TJ_CSZ3a1D9Ym8ZXAEMPVx5HoNoQzKtizgR95Mtu5eIxBIgFsZJzKV2CruXBkSbXPXDiUb-rEFQwq4evIEqYEcl7PCYQ1oSqGDlayqlL7dJANTM7lWMzm02PCZUuZ1teaiVrg/s1600/IMG_9112.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1093" data-original-width="1600" height="436" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhoaPr6f9TJ_CSZ3a1D9Ym8ZXAEMPVx5HoNoQzKtizgR95Mtu5eIxBIgFsZJzKV2CruXBkSbXPXDiUb-rEFQwq4evIEqYEcl7PCYQ1oSqGDlayqlL7dJANTM7lWMzm02PCZUuZ1teaiVrg/s640/IMG_9112.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Then using Dina Wakely Tangerine and Lemon Heavy body paint, I made flower blobs. I used Evergreen paint for stems and leaves. I left this to dry completely. I added details to the flowers by making sketchy lines with a <a href="https://amzn.to/2MIEJvw" target="_blank">dip pen</a> and <a href="https://amzn.to/2L2H56D" target="_blank">India ink.</a> If you hold the pen towards the back, you get freer lines that just look better. I added shading with some <a href="https://amzn.to/2ZwK4w8" target="_blank">Pitt Big Brush markers</a> in coordinating colors, and smudging the ink with my fingers. Lastly, I used the white Posca Pen to add highlights.<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I filled in the butterfly's body with a black Posca Pen and colored with wings with water and a brush and<a href="https://amzn.to/2L3g7M7" target="_blank"> Scribble Sticks.</a> I wanted to use my <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/292674699/fruits-of-the-spirit-stamp-set-scripture?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=fruits+of+the+spirit+stamp+set&ref=sr_gallery-1-2&organic_search_click=1&frs=1" target="_blank">Fruits of the Spirit stamp</a> set because of the wise and beautiful words. I stamped one work by each flower. For the absolute final touch I flicked paint on the box with the black pen. You have to flick it pretty hard, but you'll fill in empty spots and pull the piece together.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now I have a box to store art supplies in my studio. I always seem to need another container to organize my supplies. Need to organize your studio or craft room? Make a worthy box for yourself and practice your art at the same time.</div>

<br />
Hopefully, you're keeping cool in your corner of the world. It's blazing hot here, but that's normal for Texas.<br />
<br />
I found a cool challenge for you so you can escape the heat and learn a new trick or two. Nathalie Kalbach is a mixed media artist who creates stamps and stencils that show her love for her town Jersey City. Click <a href="https://nathaliesstudio.com/read/blog/page/2/" target="_blank">here </a>to find out more about Nathalie and her challenge. I recommend following her on Instagram. Just search for her name. The challenge is called Stencilbop and it's about using your stencils in tons of cool ways. The challenge prompts are released each day in August.<br />
<br />
Her first Challenge was to use your stencil with acrylic paint. I used a make up sponge to dab paint through circle stencils, For me that is the easiest way to apply paint through stencils. I used a variety of circle stencils in a variety of sizes. I tend to start with a light color with a bigger stencil and gradually get smaller and darker. And of course I have to add journaling.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjll68P7i99ZVwhI6R_fjMBChUxAhaloNrVF9mKwKfnvCwnrDqGjAqj_Z2bsRrXmjl6_OxVKWR_ULivu7CcFY2Y9Dxqe9_sixGfVRnPMQvXNtgdBV-Juns5CmmrTMYTuEm7xmt2zGTcxE4/s1600/IMG_8961.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1065" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjll68P7i99ZVwhI6R_fjMBChUxAhaloNrVF9mKwKfnvCwnrDqGjAqj_Z2bsRrXmjl6_OxVKWR_ULivu7CcFY2Y9Dxqe9_sixGfVRnPMQvXNtgdBV-Juns5CmmrTMYTuEm7xmt2zGTcxE4/s640/IMG_8961.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The 2nd prompt was Eye Candy, so use your favorite stencil. I love so many of my stencils! I chose <a href="https://amzn.to/2YXjU6k" target="_blank">Cell Theory</a> by TCW and sprayed <a href="https://amzn.to/2z2gi3c" target="_blank">Dylusions Spray Ink</a> through it and then spritzed it with a ton of water to get some drips. Then I doodled a giraffe with a <a href="https://amzn.to/2Z6QmSV" target="_blank">Retractable Sharpie</a> ( I love these pens)and some florals, adding details with a <a href="https://amzn.to/2KCOtoT" target="_blank">Pink Posca Paint Pen</a>--say that three times fast!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWvL1p6-xCP2VZG5sW8iJsEx-xjtqJjl_lI1ABmGHLiHVO97KoHuX6PRD7fjgwgqZq6dyr37K4QjTX05x7s3y04ewbuqKzzchF9rRGkfM3dFd6I3dQvRUAiFUr89OBcppIcz8PA6AAvJo/s1600/IMG_8964.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1133" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWvL1p6-xCP2VZG5sW8iJsEx-xjtqJjl_lI1ABmGHLiHVO97KoHuX6PRD7fjgwgqZq6dyr37K4QjTX05x7s3y04ewbuqKzzchF9rRGkfM3dFd6I3dQvRUAiFUr89OBcppIcz8PA6AAvJo/s640/IMG_8964.jpg" width="452" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The last one I'm going to show you is Day 8 Fusion. In this one you fuse acrylic paints and stamping to get delicious results. I started with a layer of <a href="https://amzn.to/2HcaR6p" target="_blank">Dina Wakely Media Turquoise paint</a> over a dried layer of <a href="https://amzn.to/2ZaaEXq" target="_blank">gesso.</a> Then I used Dina Wakely's bull's eye stencil and some of her marine paint for my background, dabbing lightly. I'm sorry I can't provide a link-it seems there are no Bull's eye stencils left. Any circular stencil should get you the same results. For the stamping I reached for my <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/450085776/gift-for-her-tiny-tree-ring-stamp-tree?ref=shop_home_active_21&frs=1" target="_blank">Tiny Tree Ring stamp</a>. I tend to use it whenever I can, because it's a great stamp for art journaling and mixed media. I used <a href="https://amzn.to/2ZaIDPD" target="_blank">Distress Ink in Blueprint </a>for stamping randomly in the background. I quickly and sketchily drew a botanical shape with a <a href="https://amzn.to/2Z4RHWc" target="_blank">Stabilo All Pencil</a>. I also journaled on a scrap of mono print. I felt the page needed more black to support the black of the pencil, so I stamped my Tiny Tree Ring stamp a few times in <a href="https://amzn.to/2Zfk8kw" target="_blank">Momento Tuxedo Black Ink.</a> That balanced the page.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Summer is the time we dream of getting away from our daily routines. I'm about to head to the lake and spend time with my Mom, Aunt and Uncle, and cousins. My daughter lives nearby so she's going to pop in for a bit, too. Whenever I travel, I truly miss my art studio. It has all of my wonderful toys: Paints, paper, stamps, markers, etc. A few years ago I started taking some materials with me. Today I want to share with you how I build my kit, hoping you get away for a bit this summer.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgz2NZ4pm0WfPUsplMilRYO64g_7Vy1q8W87_HU45Dzm2rFxxIM0gOHxtPQj0P4DqVCYyqFB9NyJpWN0F_yFFjFulDlKlIndJuO6EL3SwtRs_zr7TfYfKfjizUniJcQuqODOXLySbyr0e4/s1600/IMG_8661.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1164" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgz2NZ4pm0WfPUsplMilRYO64g_7Vy1q8W87_HU45Dzm2rFxxIM0gOHxtPQj0P4DqVCYyqFB9NyJpWN0F_yFFjFulDlKlIndJuO6EL3SwtRs_zr7TfYfKfjizUniJcQuqODOXLySbyr0e4/s640/IMG_8661.jpg" width="464" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Let's talk paper. Usually I grab some sheets of <a href="https://amzn.to/2YeWswG" target="_blank">watercolor paper</a> from the pad. Without measuring I fold the paper in the size that I want to travel with me. I soak a <a href="https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00409FPES/ref=as_li_qf_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=cherring-20&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B00409FPES&linkId=1f1840f649b1bf758e7d57630736c2e7" target="_blank">round watercolor brush </a>with water and paint a line down the fold. I tear the the wet fold. If your paper isn't tearing easily, wet it again. For my birthday this year, I received a <a href="https://www.simonsaysstamp.com/product/Ranger-Dina-Wakley-Media-6-x-6-WHITE-JOURNAL-mdj61106-mdj61106?gclid=Cj0KCQjwjMfoBRDDARIsAMUjNZq8_9RrC0XZ4iTLX3GUL-T_NNzlSG1ShUB-tulm1muqdc2Rs3j9sq0aAiMWEALw_wcB" target="_blank">Dina Wakely Media White Journal </a>which has lovely white cotton paper. The book is thick, but small. I'm going to pack it this year to see how I feel about it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Along with paper I usually bring some sort of water soluable medium to work with. I'ver taken <a href="https://amzn.to/2JjQN2r" target="_blank">Scribble Sticks</a> and watercolors. The Scribble Sticks are richly pigmented, you can color with them like a crayon, dip it in water and it looks like a marker, or brush a full waterbrush on the tip to pick up pigment that acts like watercolor. The<a href="https://amzn.to/2X4jeLa" target="_blank"> Jane Davenport Palettes </a>are richly pigmented for watercolors, but easily thinned out with water. A handy tin holds the color and a palette. Both are fantastic. Both come in a variety of palettes.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<br />
It's so beautiful in the heart of hill country in Texas. We've had rains (yay) and everything is green, full of life, and the temperature hasn't creeped to 100 yet. I hope your summer is lovely and you've found time to create.<br />
<br />
One nice thing about summer for teachers, is we have time to read. I just finished the most brilliant book, <a href="https://amzn.to/2N4l62f" target="_blank"> Steal like an Artist by Autstin Kleon</a>. This book is a clever combination of advice, affirmation and a kick in the pants. I love the hand drawn illustrations and how easily this book reads. I can't reccommend this book enough. You need one.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiuVMRfCL9T3fSORgWY9CmUj6vR-UptHneOBIVD4pqDCZpExrCNUeGUyyusCe51eQ-Yuu1_lG0A9skzv4VMVQr6neHIi_8zJp4YzIVoP7nFN9fWMs1-vNK2El5Z_BywxJJnq4KG_-cknM/s1600/IMG_8576.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1113" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiuVMRfCL9T3fSORgWY9CmUj6vR-UptHneOBIVD4pqDCZpExrCNUeGUyyusCe51eQ-Yuu1_lG0A9skzv4VMVQr6neHIi_8zJp4YzIVoP7nFN9fWMs1-vNK2El5Z_BywxJJnq4KG_-cknM/s400/IMG_8576.jpg" width="277" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I have a few sources to help you steal like an artist after you've read the book. Helpful places for inspiration are blogs such as this one that walks you through a skill, technique or philosphy of art journaling. For inspiration click <a href="http://www.pinkbunkadoo.com/2017/06/its-all-about-process-not-product.html" target="_blank">here.</a> Apps for your tablet like <a href="https://www.bloglovin.com/" target="_blank">Bloglovin'</a> help you find blogs that suit your interests.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQlG75eDEF4NHX9egFhBSk6UGp1gvGYxtGhh4TJKCaOJegDdPqvg_N_aZLrJLm5tP714SsIn4q45QuBO02NzoozibCoJdDUcKIfKVSTyxuHBa4oMopZhpdPBVHtmfmLDxySgoNPOBNwDo/s1600/IMG_E4305.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1159" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQlG75eDEF4NHX9egFhBSk6UGp1gvGYxtGhh4TJKCaOJegDdPqvg_N_aZLrJLm5tP714SsIn4q45QuBO02NzoozibCoJdDUcKIfKVSTyxuHBa4oMopZhpdPBVHtmfmLDxySgoNPOBNwDo/s640/IMG_E4305.JPG" width="462" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">It's about the process</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
Another free resource is YouTube tutorials. When I discovered art journaling, I would search for tutorials for teach me how to do this art journal thing. Yes, I went to YouTube U for my art degree! For inspiration watch the video below.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen="" class="YOUTUBE-iframe-video" data-thumbnail-src="https://i.ytimg.com/vi/N6BQwr19HJQ/0.jpg" frameborder="0" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/N6BQwr19HJQ?feature=player_embedded" width="320"></iframe></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Two other great places to find inspiration are Pinterest and Instagram. Both can be used on a computer or handheld device.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My latest source of inspiration is the Collage Collective by Dina Wakely. Her art journal work is bound in book for you to cut up and tuck in your art. I have two. One to steal from and one to use. You can check it out <a href="https://amzn.to/2Xe9hKp" target="_blank">here.</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNTOVtjnwYldFPLRkaOWxaFTSjTTw6waYOnWm6zdCdz_Q_vgGt5KlQnWYNjuqZ8X6BMtytqJlwHm-HlhWJBijS7RpcNo6BIr4oU-fM6Flr1dUCA4fkV10M_4XggWbYmDGVubuJygJ4ENg/s1600/IMG_8593.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1025" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNTOVtjnwYldFPLRkaOWxaFTSjTTw6waYOnWm6zdCdz_Q_vgGt5KlQnWYNjuqZ8X6BMtytqJlwHm-HlhWJBijS7RpcNo6BIr4oU-fM6Flr1dUCA4fkV10M_4XggWbYmDGVubuJygJ4ENg/s320/IMG_8593.jpg" width="204" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Inspiration is all around you and you are good enough right now to be on this art journey. So get out there and steal!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<br />
It's so great to be back in this space. May for teachers is always all consuming with reports, last minute conferences, meetings, field trips and parties that being in my studio is rare. I did make a pile of cards, but I only posted those on Instagram. There was no time to write.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen="" class="YOUTUBE-iframe-video" data-thumbnail-src="https://i.ytimg.com/vi/Yr9Aa4kc5Es/0.jpg" frameborder="0" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Yr9Aa4kc5Es?feature=player_embedded" width="320"></iframe></div>
I have a project for you that I made a while back, and am now posting. It's a lovely simple floral design with layets of texture and color. Here's a video for you.<br />
<br />
This is all inspired by Tam LaPorte. I ran into a class bundle she was selling to raise money for tree plantings. As I love art and nature I had to check it out. Unfortunately the window for this bundle is closed, but she is very generous. If you sign up for her newsletter she sends free videos to your mailbox and she has many freebies on her site. And I've discovered her classes worth the money. Here is a l<a href="https://www.willowing.org/about/" target="_blank">ink</a>.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBS4aEeQUmPyg7Ggsa-EoOe4XhtyEwfhsYn5119p9Xb35oE2eyQ3_Wh9F5tJnauwzveSdSFWjgiakBr413QYQkoQKe5odyRejzK3qQEp2XOPVAe1vp6t_v8RNZ_SFESxzeBg_-FHzLvCo/s1600/1C36ABA0-89A3-4B1F-9917-5764DCF36B56+%25281%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1281" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBS4aEeQUmPyg7Ggsa-EoOe4XhtyEwfhsYn5119p9Xb35oE2eyQ3_Wh9F5tJnauwzveSdSFWjgiakBr413QYQkoQKe5odyRejzK3qQEp2XOPVAe1vp6t_v8RNZ_SFESxzeBg_-FHzLvCo/s640/1C36ABA0-89A3-4B1F-9917-5764DCF36B56+%25281%2529.jpg" width="512" /></a></div>
<br />
This project is my practice from one of her classes. I started with putting collage elements down on my page which makes me happy as I always save every scrap for a future project. Then is simple drawings with layers of color. As you tryit, please feel free to use your favorite mediums--I did. I don't usually post materials because I feel you probably have something similar that you can use.<br />
<br />
Thanks a million for being here. I adore your comments.<br />

<br />
I have fallen in love with Scribble Sticks and this project highlights them. But the great news is you can do this project with any water soluable medium such as water colors, Tombow or Zig markers, and water coloring crayons. I first did this project for Birgit Koopsen's Everything Circles Challenge--you can find out more about it <a href="http://www.pinkbunkadoo.com/2019/04/everything-circle-challenges.html" target="_blank">here.</a><br />
<br />

<br />
Another thing to love about this project is that it uses minimal supplies. I will have a link to Scribble Sticks because they are a little trickier to find.<br />
<br />
Here's is a process video if you'd like to know more.<br />

<br />
You probably know this already, but I love an art challenge. You can read about that <a href="http://www.pinkbunkadoo.com/search?updated-max=2018-07-14T12:27:00-05:00&max-results=6&start=12&by-date=false" target="_blank">here.</a> You can always find a friendly challenge on <a href="https://www.simonsaysstampblog.com/" target="_blank">Simon Says Stamp</a> each week. They have a few different ones. To find one click on their blog. Marieke Blokland from Blocknote Academy is hosting a challenge on <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/Bv1tDRJjEL7/" target="_blank">Instagram</a> that uses pen, paper, glue, and scissors. It's free and she's a lot of fun. She makes an effort to make art making accessible to everyone<br />
<br />
I'm currently in another challenge for the month of April called Everything Circles. The title alone intrigued me. It's on Instagram and hosted by the talented <a href="https://www.instagram.com/birgit_koopsen/" target="_blank">Birgit Koopsen.</a> The last challenge I participated with her was<a href="http://www.pinkbunkadoo.com/2018/04/5-fabulous-ways-to-use-mono-prints.html" target="_blank"> 31 Days of Gelli Printing. </a><br />
<br />
Here's the Everything Circle Challenge so far.<br />
<br />
Day 1 Mandala-I wasn't successful with making a mandala that day, so I ended up throwing some circles down over some Brusho. It was so much fun. The best part is I used my <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/450085776/gift-for-her-tiny-tree-ring-stamp-tree?ref=shop_home_active_21" target="_blank">Tiny Tree Ring Stamp. </a> It has circles and plenty of them.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXecYtMfZvpMsqMwiPFQcTfs_T71UqPGap-CJvNkvJg_niNxwa-k2hLwuv8C3syS3MDA7k6LX9HVzzm_IvhttQ6Y5aTB5qp8KeVGsQMJvx51x93b9BWIF4NTdfYS8dw7KuiZ0K91kRKEk/s1600/IMG_8082.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1129" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXecYtMfZvpMsqMwiPFQcTfs_T71UqPGap-CJvNkvJg_niNxwa-k2hLwuv8C3syS3MDA7k6LX9HVzzm_IvhttQ6Y5aTB5qp8KeVGsQMJvx51x93b9BWIF4NTdfYS8dw7KuiZ0K91kRKEk/s640/IMG_8082.jpg" width="450" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The cool thing is no one cares how you respond to the prompt.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Day 2 Lyrics I chose Simple Gifts and altered it a bit to suit me. I wanted to create a bright folk arty simple page. Success! Beside, Gelatos are finger paints for grownups. And of course I snuck in my Tiny Tree Ring Stamp!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzTzFLL7mwocUq2c69nSN33YFRGGa2d_t-5XSmgestPQyc-Hpnp38s05f30SQp91ApBZFG69OEuWAiSjQrdyjIOijsiOxh6Gbp5UUuw3GXWpAcSwDnIJGJOBen1guAKiKkKL0BQKJk2NM/s1600/IMG_8098.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1333" data-original-width="1600" height="532" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzTzFLL7mwocUq2c69nSN33YFRGGa2d_t-5XSmgestPQyc-Hpnp38s05f30SQp91ApBZFG69OEuWAiSjQrdyjIOijsiOxh6Gbp5UUuw3GXWpAcSwDnIJGJOBen1guAKiKkKL0BQKJk2NM/s640/IMG_8098.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Day 3 The Challenge was to paint a page using all the colors or collage of gelli prints or patterned papers. Then to draw circles and paint around them with black. I wanted to have our precious and fragile earth hanging alone in space. That warm sun and bubble of atmosphere is precious gift. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
I didn't quite follow the rules again. I painted my background black and splattered starts with white gesso and a little pink, red and blue. Then I cut a circle out of the page. (I did double check that I didn't cut a finished page. Whew!) I traced a circle die for a pattern. Then I cut a page of alcohol ink using the next largest die. I cut it larger so the alcohol inked paper would fill the circle and not leave any gaps. The journaling is the same idea I shared earlier about our precious earth. I used a white paint pen and went around the earth to show the air we all rely on. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhE3HBqoWEi1TZ2cuuVT64eRofr7r3mc0zyFyEB9XFjVa3Ms69U4IlQoYcSb_Up0tGEqb9vw2zzXWK80B9IiGpEvJts1BoJ5VmPXAJw5yQWJAitd4vbCr_q-143JxvXDOd8tIo3GEw5pOc/s1600/IMG_8091.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1142" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhE3HBqoWEi1TZ2cuuVT64eRofr7r3mc0zyFyEB9XFjVa3Ms69U4IlQoYcSb_Up0tGEqb9vw2zzXWK80B9IiGpEvJts1BoJ5VmPXAJw5yQWJAitd4vbCr_q-143JxvXDOd8tIo3GEw5pOc/s640/IMG_8091.jpg" width="454" /></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Day 4 Doodling Doodling is not a technique I go to, but I just played. It was fun. I just doodled over a grungy clean up page using surprising pink</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<br />
It's good to stretch yourself from your art journal book into a canvas, but a canvas can seem big and daunting. So why not try tiny canvases first?<br />
<br />
Let's go back. I had a migraine one day so all I could do was lay down in a dark room with sunglasses on and watch Netflix because once you start something, it'll just keep playing. That day I watched Marie Kondo's new show. When I was recovered I decided to tackle the disaster that is my studio. As I was tidying up, I found these tiny canvases I'd started a while ago.<br />
<br />
That got me thinking and there out the window went the tidying (not forever). I thought about how a tiny canvas is fun and easy for a first canvas. I decided to gesso them with a lot of water to tone down what I'd started.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiH41QeBGrjRGBReP4L9xpmS00w5QIP5gAYNKLpgvKyTuBypmUCca5BM2yl-M8Vf8WtK2BAxOIowPp9j5IR9KZZLWoS985WLm-xy-Z8bWG0RjAi-VdutRqrZqgew5S6qwRuhlxb7uP5P6g/s1600/IMG_8002.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiH41QeBGrjRGBReP4L9xpmS00w5QIP5gAYNKLpgvKyTuBypmUCca5BM2yl-M8Vf8WtK2BAxOIowPp9j5IR9KZZLWoS985WLm-xy-Z8bWG0RjAi-VdutRqrZqgew5S6qwRuhlxb7uP5P6g/s640/IMG_8002.jpg" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">already started</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br /><div>
The canvases had script tissue paper and some inking through a stencil, plus a smidge of line green paint. Time had passed and I was over that palette. </div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixzvqKYb_cBP3JpOiWi07zyIOAosS2OYhjpKA_BgE3teUn3vG4q_SGqIlXtTmajUSRuv-J2ECtxsULPocguKVgAQJPAQ-zXe23RpR8LuPS2TxD64mDxvUVOPx4kJPZOsWLg25pg6Y1wns/s1600/IMG_8003.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1110" data-original-width="1600" height="442" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixzvqKYb_cBP3JpOiWi07zyIOAosS2OYhjpKA_BgE3teUn3vG4q_SGqIlXtTmajUSRuv-J2ECtxsULPocguKVgAQJPAQ-zXe23RpR8LuPS2TxD64mDxvUVOPx4kJPZOsWLg25pg6Y1wns/s640/IMG_8003.jpg" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">updated palette</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
I dripped Dylusions spray ink and a ton of water down the front on one side for an instant POW of color. I used lime green paint on a sponge wedge through a smaller stencil. Then I added doodles using pencil, pen, and paint pens.<br /><div>
<br /></div>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">alcohol ink</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />The pink drip was obviously where I was going to put my focal point. I adhered clusters of these die cut leaves tin the drip line. They were cut from a piece of Yupo that I'd play on with alcohol inks. The paper texture is very different and you run it through your die cutter a time or two. Take them out gingerly.<div>
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; text-align: right;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">shading</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
</div>
<div>
My spiritual practice is to attempt to love God with my heart, soul , and mind and my neighbor as myself. I'm going to be practicing for a while it seems. Any way those were the focus ideas of my canvases.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
For heart I cut a heart from pink alcohol inked paper. For soul I chose a draw a dove and for mind I chose a flower bud. Because Yupo is nonporous, takes for ever to dry ink on it that then wipes off easily, I drew with a pencil on the back side, cut my images out and then shaded them with Pitt Big Brush Markers.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
These markers have India ink which dries permanently, but you have a window to smudge the ink for a delicate shading. That's what I did on all my focal images. I also used the ink for the details on the dove. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I took the stickers that said heart, soul and mind from my Paper Faith sticker collection. Perfect words.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
This was a quick project. It's easily and fun. Why not spread your creative wings to a canvas?</div>

Blessings,</div>

<br />
There's a surprising amount of interesting art tools in household objects. One of my top favorites is jar lids. I have a plastic gelato container with all kinds of lids inside. They are perfect to trace, even though I have a circle master. Lids give you more patterns and variety. I can even trace the top and bottom of the gelato container. But with my lids I can roll them in paint, or dip them in paint. I can throw them away if I muck them up or add to my collection anytime I find an interesting top.<br />
<br />
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0cylhwl9pnlR2jsGTVbBHtB7XT1iVqXiklR3WMyWAoK4eO5kKRS4GKWgWm5NDCgNncZfl-9m2F-gR3S1a0-rG-IjQGQEnoyNawFoaRmgZbN30HjbVaDub-WQspnCz3fy90Y6e2Y8e5_w/s1600/IMG_7793.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1128" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0cylhwl9pnlR2jsGTVbBHtB7XT1iVqXiklR3WMyWAoK4eO5kKRS4GKWgWm5NDCgNncZfl-9m2F-gR3S1a0-rG-IjQGQEnoyNawFoaRmgZbN30HjbVaDub-WQspnCz3fy90Y6e2Y8e5_w/s640/IMG_7793.jpg" width="449" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">my lid collection</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
For my art journal page I quickly spread some turquoise and some marine paint on my gesso covered page. Then I scraped the paint with an old gift card (which is another great tool) to make the layer thin so I could see some of the white of the page. Also I wanted the page smooth for tracing.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdbR5-I4XKGNvYxvTurPiXiO55ErB_L7T9n5TQkQkVnh4IfE8EyBYjA7_NdbpLDj2ydXQASH17hHtIGTnrt-L_zDmHQlDYxYiHUv0kILYplzRgyugtiRvyl-NAJoTk3kIZ7IaoHdwWaXk/s1600/IMG_7794.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1436" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdbR5-I4XKGNvYxvTurPiXiO55ErB_L7T9n5TQkQkVnh4IfE8EyBYjA7_NdbpLDj2ydXQASH17hHtIGTnrt-L_zDmHQlDYxYiHUv0kILYplzRgyugtiRvyl-NAJoTk3kIZ7IaoHdwWaXk/s320/IMG_7794.jpg" width="287" /></a></div>
<div>
<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I traced three nesting lids with a Stabilo All Pencil and then retraced with Scribble Sticks that I dipped in water. That's where my drips came from. Add a spray of water should you want more drips, keeping in mind the black pencil is water soluble as well. I added an alchol ink heart in the center and some tiny writing.<br />

<br />
With my tummy full of homemade gumbo on a cold, wet day I pulled out my scap paper paper to make a valentine for my sweet Joe. To see how to make your own scrap paper paper, click <a href="http://www.pinkbunkadoo.com/2019/01/scrap-paper-paper.html" target="_blank">here. </a> I also dug into my paper scrap envelope, too.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSDdDlRP_UrE83GIct9wYjjyN6hJBi_lZM_mqHplQXG1n2KrRv9_qve9IN0q4cHZ7dm9UE_bJN4RrCg3v483eqApSlmoNS9c6kZBisY-rMO3IAhmmj4S2Z1gbNah9Dw6swSuBNCimoGCs/s1600/IMG_7704.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1205" data-original-width="1600" height="482" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSDdDlRP_UrE83GIct9wYjjyN6hJBi_lZM_mqHplQXG1n2KrRv9_qve9IN0q4cHZ7dm9UE_bJN4RrCg3v483eqApSlmoNS9c6kZBisY-rMO3IAhmmj4S2Z1gbNah9Dw6swSuBNCimoGCs/s640/IMG_7704.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Here are the scraps that I chose to make this card. There was enough kraft cardstock for a card base.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2sZ7JgYnww5GOoYrF8u4ze16j-2QqB_PYtrLiqLNnfld_fIX9JeSO9t3K1Izu72qcz5mR9nKY3_VYmHeU9llgs1Vrs4Uu8PazGsRq1qTMNYbqtFxUlFOWoOyQX9lc-wgez4nY1GjowTc/s1600/IMG_7700.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1564" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2sZ7JgYnww5GOoYrF8u4ze16j-2QqB_PYtrLiqLNnfld_fIX9JeSO9t3K1Izu72qcz5mR9nKY3_VYmHeU9llgs1Vrs4Uu8PazGsRq1qTMNYbqtFxUlFOWoOyQX9lc-wgez4nY1GjowTc/s320/IMG_7700.jpg" width="312" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
To make the heart stand out a bit more on this card, I swiped Vintage Photo Distress Ink around the edges.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxnNxo4c6inKCq-8yqhW741VkKnmLjbwoLHEW-nhtbEwGg7n-2lm2t_SfBxhyphenhyphenZfzord6hI1uBgk5JL9fqfyFEv8rhVa3Lx6gNjEMcKiACC3vfLaAe-4ZYY07ZorbgUMWKFjme4BjuA9rU/s1600/IMG_7701.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxnNxo4c6inKCq-8yqhW741VkKnmLjbwoLHEW-nhtbEwGg7n-2lm2t_SfBxhyphenhyphenZfzord6hI1uBgk5JL9fqfyFEv8rhVa3Lx6gNjEMcKiACC3vfLaAe-4ZYY07ZorbgUMWKFjme4BjuA9rU/s320/IMG_7701.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
After I folded my card base, I trimmed the yellow scrap to fit at the bottome of the card. And the heart looked great tilted at an angle on the far right of the card. To gift the heart some shine I painted Wink of Stella over it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqIyJHubpk79UA0PisLtI_OlP88lJ-j3A7d9VPa9duDpqSySKR9fGS98QbmQMx0LwIu5MCDnE8RDEiEn1vUIh8ENJ_lRwfaGZSsfZC6turWxn5ZxFhDT1tdqRKrg7PTVESPTweM-TYII8/s1600/IMG_7703.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1216" data-original-width="1600" height="243" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqIyJHubpk79UA0PisLtI_OlP88lJ-j3A7d9VPa9duDpqSySKR9fGS98QbmQMx0LwIu5MCDnE8RDEiEn1vUIh8ENJ_lRwfaGZSsfZC6turWxn5ZxFhDT1tdqRKrg7PTVESPTweM-TYII8/s320/IMG_7703.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
To complete the card I used my Flexible Arrow Stamp along the botton of the Kraft paper and an XOXO stamp from an older Simon Says Stamp Card Kit. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhK76x0q1_6SqX5bExtBhAbzaU0kEMHNpd-sh_YMESASsXkbCFU0tAHRUxytWeZLC02GNHrPm9AMZtp1k46BiEDYdP3V_yhwnVVH6SXrT6XJbeak8pEXPBKnARqYf-7eb0Vt5koxvQd_6E/s1600/IMG_7704.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1205" data-original-width="1600" height="482" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhK76x0q1_6SqX5bExtBhAbzaU0kEMHNpd-sh_YMESASsXkbCFU0tAHRUxytWeZLC02GNHrPm9AMZtp1k46BiEDYdP3V_yhwnVVH6SXrT6XJbeak8pEXPBKnARqYf-7eb0Vt5koxvQd_6E/s640/IMG_7704.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Joe went into my studio and saw the card on my table. I guess I'm making a new Valentine's Day card! But your sweetie hasn't seen it yet, so go ahead and make one.<br />
<br />
XOXO,<br />
<br />

<br />
At the beginning of the year, I shared my idea of putting my faith in art when I found a Bible verse that spoke to me. Then at the end of the month I would collect them all here. If you want to start at the beginning click <a href="http://www.pinkbunkadoo.com/2019/01/marks-of-faith-art-jounral.html" target="_blank">here</a>. The project is on YouTube, but I wanted to make it easier to share with you here, too. <br />

<br /><div>
The second week of January was inspired by Luke 6. This spoke to me because I tend to be very generous, but get my feelings hurt when it's just me thinking I'm the only generous one. The verse said to do good and be generous expecting nothing in return. My mistake was I had expectations. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />Hi Y'all,<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I'm feeling virtuous today because I'm using up scrap paper I've saved. There's still a ton of use in those scraps and they can be an intriguing part of any project. Today I'm going to show you how to make scrap paper paper so you can use an interesting collage in your work. Here's a process video for you:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe width="320" height="266" class="YOUTUBE-iframe-video" data-thumbnail-src="https://i.ytimg.com/vi/Kxh9IuCsVGw/0.jpg" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Kxh9IuCsVGw?feature=player_embedded" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I like to glue my scraps onto lighter watercolor paper to make a new paper. Just paint the paper with gel medium to glue your scraps down. I made four different kinds of paper.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For the first one I glued horizontal stripes onto my paper, added some stenciling and turned it into a tag. I turned the tag so that the pattern would have a slant.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjo8JBnPzsOv1no6eOIHx6yInb7AICH8e1RAQJ1OYvtCmv-gIoIv0yTEiuFjh6pZfWZ_x3S9Hl1odiWCcEi4PrZbxKwNXoNOJ42j5wRdeV3CBKSQRfpoSJGnYBTStNjbCdPV4rwlDvVRrQ/s1600/IMG_7628.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1025" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjo8JBnPzsOv1no6eOIHx6yInb7AICH8e1RAQJ1OYvtCmv-gIoIv0yTEiuFjh6pZfWZ_x3S9Hl1odiWCcEi4PrZbxKwNXoNOJ42j5wRdeV3CBKSQRfpoSJGnYBTStNjbCdPV4rwlDvVRrQ/s640/IMG_7628.jpg" width="408" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I glued the stripes horizontally on the second one and then die cut a bunch of hearts. They will come in handy on cards, and in mixed media projects.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div>
<br />I just made a paper quilt with next scraps and then die cut them with a rectangle die ready for future cards.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5DKAMJHvde9OIuFCH4Dbk3_mrEooVhPhT64q6QtpOZl8m5TRfZpVSIWVO1oCMxF-TzynlPpWQNunVfPqsiZz3BcMmfjvwhWQnsqWznPHGIj0PD5jAlnHJVsTD8s3tfVh9QZHOu_5XBZY/s1600/IMG_7626.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1025" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5DKAMJHvde9OIuFCH4Dbk3_mrEooVhPhT64q6QtpOZl8m5TRfZpVSIWVO1oCMxF-TzynlPpWQNunVfPqsiZz3BcMmfjvwhWQnsqWznPHGIj0PD5jAlnHJVsTD8s3tfVh9QZHOu_5XBZY/s640/IMG_7626.jpg" width="410" /></a></div>
<br />
For the last one I tore paper and adhered it higgly piggly. When it dried I calmed the pattern down with some gesso. I haven't dedided if I'm going to keep it whole or cut it down and use it in an art journal page. <br />

Next time I'll share what I'm using all that cool collage paper for. Gather your scraps and get ready to create with me.</div>

Hi y'all,<br />
<br />
There's an idea out there that can be defeating to people getting into art journaling: an artist has the idea mapped out completely before starting. Oh, I'm sure some artist can do that, but there is another philosophy. This philosophy is that letting art happen organically, naturally without tight control . This practice can lead to amazing results. For a someone like me that never found the perfectionist within, it's joy. It's like play and experimenting rolled into one.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9Jd_sPBWkSSq-CQyURkkqGSkczn_5qdZyXPPlEsnwAbuF-MRJr08Gnj9J9ffw241m3QKRQqRRcigXFrWbBOWYj3M5lpELXGll7TCKG5r1AaoFqk0S8UkWZcm9maFRAtU14BiLrBgPA8s/s1600/IMG_5061.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="972" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9Jd_sPBWkSSq-CQyURkkqGSkczn_5qdZyXPPlEsnwAbuF-MRJr08Gnj9J9ffw241m3QKRQqRRcigXFrWbBOWYj3M5lpELXGll7TCKG5r1AaoFqk0S8UkWZcm9maFRAtU14BiLrBgPA8s/s640/IMG_5061.jpg" width="388" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
Here's a video showing you every little thing I did.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe allowfullscreen="" class="YOUTUBE-iframe-video" data-thumbnail-src="https://i.ytimg.com/vi/N6BQwr19HJQ/0.jpg" frameborder="0" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/N6BQwr19HJQ?feature=player_embedded" width="320"></iframe></div>
<div>
<br />
Often I like to choose a technique to start with. For this page I chose blowing pigment with a straw. This technique works well with watercolors, water soluble crayons--actually with any water soluble medium. I scribbled on the bottom of my spread with Scribble Sticks, wet it with a water brush, and then blew with the straw. Since I chose not to gesso, I did use a lot of water.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlL7cl8IPXhJGuOiXP-nn6n0rh0P1Mjs5pJ1Y9R5NJMbMo4E_eCuIiLRCFw4ankg0M3iIxfGjgHOh_CIL_bearb2pzn6KRxwFCskWgCSa-E2fKedhrdNHhMMcdLkoL6-sUtIfIklDEwLw/s1600/RenderedImage.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1015" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlL7cl8IPXhJGuOiXP-nn6n0rh0P1Mjs5pJ1Y9R5NJMbMo4E_eCuIiLRCFw4ankg0M3iIxfGjgHOh_CIL_bearb2pzn6KRxwFCskWgCSa-E2fKedhrdNHhMMcdLkoL6-sUtIfIklDEwLw/s640/RenderedImage.JPG" width="404" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">blowing technique</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
I used three cool colors and allowed them to mix and mingle at the bottom where they all connected. This technique is like dripping where you add your medium at the top, spray it with water and tilt your page.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I wanted to add some texture so I tore some gelli prints up and added those with matte medium. It started to look like a plant, so I decided to add a bee stamp. Stamping on a started page can be scary. I've done that before and made a mess. I solved that little dilemma and you can click <a href="http://www.pinkbunkadoo.com/2018/10/covering-art-journal-mistake.html" target="_blank">here</a> to find out how to fix mistakes on your page. Instead of stamping on my page I stamped on plain old white tissue paper. Using a water brush I went around the bee without letting the water touch the stamped image. Then I gently tore the image out. I put matte medium on my page where I wanted the bee and then placed the bee on that spot and smoothed it out. Don't put matte medium directly on the tissue--it will fall apart. I know all about that!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrJZyemCTtWAowHCqtb8W9ssw_6EEkpt5Q0dHbWSXVbZa2UfsQjHc9k670WHNxONMtPdLRYGZLdHM4wdVDx1OhnMeqmhC6sVxm63b3Z0oVyNIZtIzW7W43CDPsHdb0cVns0KU1E35N5GQ/s1600/IMG_5063.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1036" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrJZyemCTtWAowHCqtb8W9ssw_6EEkpt5Q0dHbWSXVbZa2UfsQjHc9k670WHNxONMtPdLRYGZLdHM4wdVDx1OhnMeqmhC6sVxm63b3Z0oVyNIZtIzW7W43CDPsHdb0cVns0KU1E35N5GQ/s400/IMG_5063.jpg" width="258" /></a></div>
<br />
<div>
Now that the bee was added the page was begging for a flower. I looked at flower images on Pinterest. ( I created a flower inspiration board to use when I need a flower. ) With a few strokes of the Scribble Sticks I made the general shape of the flower an then sketchily went around it with a dip pen and India ink. Then I journaled along the stem.<br />
<br />
Of course splatters make all the difference so I added them along the way.<br />
<br />
I hope you try this technique and play.<br />
<br />
Warm and toasty wishes,<br />
<br />

<br />
There are two things I believe in when I create. First is that you should challenge yourself to grow. Even if you feel overwhelmed or don't end up loving your project. You did it! It improveds your art. The second thing is to use up all those paper scraps. Almost every project I work on creates scraps. I married those two ideas in this card as part of the Hand Stamped Sentiments Challenge.<br />
Click <a href="http://handstampedsentiments.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">here </a>to learn more.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">beautiful scraps</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
It's true--scraps can run all over you. To help I organize my scraps into 3 envelopes (plus a giant box which we are going to pretend doesn't exist). One envelope is called poetically "Scraps". It's full of larger scraps that could be card panels, die cut pieces, or elements on an art journal page. The second one is calld "Bitty Scraps". It has a lot of thinner strips that I can stamp sentiments on or join together to make a cool card panel. And the last one is called "Mono prints" because they are special hand designed papers--not necessarily cut, just tucked in all together to make them easy to find.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: left; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">bountiful scraps</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
From the scraps envelope I found the scripty paper I used for my card panel and flower die cuts. From my bitty scraps I found the piece of corrugated blue cardboard, and finally from my cigar box (did I forget to mention that?) of ephemera I found the senteiment and enaamel jewel.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
There were already blue splotches on the panel piece, but I continued them with a Tombow marker and I underlined the sentiment. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
It's truly amazing what you can create with scraps. Save them. At least save the very best ones in a box, envelope or a stack on your craft table. You might surprise yourself in what you can create.</div>

I'm wishing creativity and peace of us all! Last year was a long study of balancing my life. I love teaching first grade, but I'd taken on additional responsibilities at school for years and made the big decision to give those extra responsibilities away. I ended 2018 content.<br />

<br />
It's the end of the year and a good time for reflection. It was a good year of creativity. I even took time off to be a student again and enrolled in a few courses-- a worthwhile investment. I spent serious time to bring balance to my life. I decided to continue teaching first grade, but gave up some of the responsibilities that I've had for years to focus on my faith, family, teaching and art. Thank you for traveling with me.<br />

As you are a big part of my journey here, I wanted to celebrate your favorite posts for the year. Number 5 in the list is :<br />

I had so much fun joining Birgit Koopsen's 30 day Gelli Print challenge. Of course after the challenge I had a juicy pile of prints that I put to work and shared with you some ways to use them. My favorite way is to tuck it into my work such as an art journal spread or an original card. Art journaling is not about perfection, but sometimes you make a choice that doesn't work with the piece. <br />
Peace be with you this holiday season. I imagine you all elbows deep in crafts. I've been making handmade journals and travel books for friends--I'll share soon. I wish all of you time. That's the thing I always need more of. This summer and fall I took serious time of to be a student again and took some art and art journal classes. So challenging.<br />
<br />
Now I'm back sharing this most adorable stamp set by Paper Artsy. I pestered them on every social media for the release date and finally was able to buy a set. Now they are making Christmas cards. To find out more click <a href="https://blog.paperartsy.co.uk/2018/12/2018-topic-22-clean-simple-christmas.html">here</a>. You'll find lovely things.<br />

<br />
<br />
I made this card with the first day of Christmas. I stamped this precious girl on some vanilla card scrap and I also stamped a mask with Post it Tape.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMFLeD5GTbnAU23qnZjNCQHs1PkHD7_EXOduc7ynXEh2B5cf24TV4XfU3sNgx6WMipBYmCVMFh8remguyuu50q56MoknO4VghpgPDekPzrlSSZC75Gg9nD6qxweYrys1upPUQ3wka98Gw/s1600/IMG_7411.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1200" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMFLeD5GTbnAU23qnZjNCQHs1PkHD7_EXOduc7ynXEh2B5cf24TV4XfU3sNgx6WMipBYmCVMFh8remguyuu50q56MoknO4VghpgPDekPzrlSSZC75Gg9nD6qxweYrys1upPUQ3wka98Gw/s320/IMG_7411.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I had fun with a Versa Mark pen making circles of snow falling which I then embossed. This I sprayed pink and blue shimmer sprays over all.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdpjPGhQdnsmi_cC_al1JvdSvy8ocRpcAEzg39ly5mndZMwda0MiaxkUS0TnsQae6uFLJYXse6FxcWV_Sdr5yEf1G46O_vy175h9mkqk36DJWntOlh6YeZU-t4XHi_gbEPZcmn0elyUHk/s1600/IMG_7419.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1203" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdpjPGhQdnsmi_cC_al1JvdSvy8ocRpcAEzg39ly5mndZMwda0MiaxkUS0TnsQae6uFLJYXse6FxcWV_Sdr5yEf1G46O_vy175h9mkqk36DJWntOlh6YeZU-t4XHi_gbEPZcmn0elyUHk/s320/IMG_7419.jpg" width="240" /></a>When everything was dry, I peeled off the tape and smiled. It's always great to see the difference between your stamped image and the background. I stamped just the dress on some gelli print I had and stuck it down with glue stick. I painted the heart with a pink paint pen and then decided to make the bow, her cheeks, and the part of the partridge pink as well. I used colored pencils on her face and the pears. To add the shimmer Christmas calls for I used Wink of Stella on the crown and the little heart.<br />
<br />
I put it all on bright pink paper and found a fun green envelope to go with.<br />
